Shahan Ali Mohsin, Akash Gowda and Ricky Donison are 2015 JK Tyre-FMSCI National Rotax Max Karting Champions
Shahan Ali Mohsin, Akash Gowda and Ricky Donison emerged National champions in the Micro Max, Junior Max and Senior Max categories after the conclusion of the 2015 JK Tyre-FMSCI National Rotax Max Karting Championship in Bangalore on Sunday.
In the fifth and final round of the Championship at the Meco Kartopia karting track, Bangalore’s Nikhil Bohra (Team Meco Racing), Mumbai’s Mohammed Nallwalla (Team Rayo Racing) and Bangalore’s Ricky Donison (Team BPC Racing) won the final races in their respective categories.
Donison also received trophies for the maximum number of wins and maximum number of pole positions. Mohammad Zain Ali bagged the Best Newcomer of the Year award, Mohsin took the Best Driver of the Year award, Nirmal Umashankar got the Akbar Ebrahim Trophy for the Most Improved Driver of the Year and Mira Erda bagged the Most Promising Female Driver of the year award.
The finals of the Micro Max had an exciting climax. Bohra and Mohsin were involved in an intense battle for the top spot on the podium. Mohsin put in efforts to get past the leader despite the fact that his National title was in the bag even if he finished second. Ultimately, he perhaps decided not to push too hard and risk it. Ruhaan Alva extended his lead from Chirag Ghorpade, who was constantly chasing him for the third place. However, Alva kept his third place. With a second place finish, Mohsin sealed his championship title in the Micro Max category.
In the Junior Max finals, Nallwalla was comfortable in winning the race. The real battle was behind him as Nirmal Umashankar, Akash Gowda, Manav Sharma and Yash Aradhya fought bumper to bumper for the second and third places. Eventually, Umashankar finished second and Gowda third. Even with a third place finish, Gowda sealed the championship.
The Senior Max final was also bitterly fought. Donison was in the lead throughout and the fight was among Vishnu Prasad, Nayan Chatterjee, Krishnaraj Mahadik and Ameya Bafna. With Donison taking an easy win, Prasad eventually finished second and Chatterjee third. Donison took the National title in this class.
The champions in the Junior and Senior Max categories will now participate in the World Karting finals in Portugal this year. The top three overall champions in the Junior and Senior Max categories will drive in the JKFB02 class in the JK Tyre Racing Championship 2016.
