JK Tyre–MMS Rotax Kart Open 2015 Concludes Amidst Lots of Action
Bengaluru, May 24, 2015:Bengaluru for the first time played host to the JK Tyre–MMS RotaxKart Open and Rookie Cup 2015 and witnessed an electrifying performance by the budding racers of our country on 23 & 24 May, 2015. The two day event gave youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talent and gain some valuable racing experience as they gear up for the upcoming National championships. The event took place at Bengaluru’s new karting destination, known as Meco Kartopia. The national champions of previous years namely Vishnu Prasad, Karminder Singh, Nikhil Kashyap, Diljith, took charge as marshalls and ensured a smooth event.
Races across categories witnessed some nail biting action. At the end of two days as all the racing action concluded the following are the champions in the JK Tyre–MMS Rotax Kart Open:
Micro Max – Nikhil Bohra from Bengaluru, Meco Racing placed first with 66 points followed by Ruhaan Alwa from Bengaluru, team BPC Racing with 65 points. Chirag Ghorpade from Bengaluru, Team BPC Racing finished third at 61 points.
Junior Max – Aaroh Ravindra from Mumbai, team Rayo Racing placed first 70 points followed by Akash Gowda from Bengaluru, team Meco Racing at 68 points. Mohamed Nallwalla from Mumbai, team Rayo Racing finished third at 65 points.
Senior Max – Ricky Donision from Bengaluru, team BPC Racing placed first with 70 points followed by Nayan Chatterjee from Mumbai, team Rayo Racing at 59 points. Dhruv Shivaji Mohite from Kolhapur, team Mohite’s Racing finished third at 49 points.
In the JK Tyre–MMS Rotax Rookie Cup, following are the winners
Micro Max – Ruhaan Alwa from Bengaluru, team BPC Racing placed first with 78 points followed by Aditya Swaminathan from Bengaluru, team Meco Racing with 72 points. Akshay Bohra from Bengaluru, team Meco Racing finished third with 62 points.
Junior Max – Aanjan Patodia from Pune, team Rayo Racing placed first with 60 points followed by Nirmal Umashankar from Chennai, team Meco Racing at 57 points. Kevin Perera from Sri Lanka, team Meco Racing finished third with 55 points.
Senior Max – Mohammed Zain Ali from Bengaluru, team BPC Racing placed first with 71 points followed by Charith Gunawardena from Sri Lanka, team Meco Racing at 68 points. Brayan Perera from Sri Lanka, team Meco Racing finished third with 64 points.
The newly launched track was inaugurated by Shri D.K Shivakumar, Hon’ble Minister of Energy, Govt. of Karnataka on Sunday afternoon. The event was also attended by Shri R Bharath Raj, President FMSCI as guest of honor. Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motorsport, JK Tyre, Mr. Akbar Ebrahim and young racing sensation Armaan Ebrahim were present for the event. The inauguration was followed by the final set of races.
The two day event had two categories of races – the Kart Open and the Rookie Cup. At the end of first round of races on Saturday Bengaluru Karters were leading on the points table. In the Kart Open, Nikhil Bohra in the Micro Max category, Akash Gowda from the Junior Max category and Ricky Donision from Senior Max category were leading the chart. In the Rookie Cup, Ruhaan Alwa in Micro Max, Manav Sharma in Junior Max and Mohammed Zain Ali in the Senior Max category were at top of the charts.
There were 24 races in total which took place over two days and 40 young karters competing with each other. Even though the sun showed no mercy the karters raced fiercely to win the overall championship title here on Sunday. These karters represented six teams under three different classes namely, Micro Max, Junior Max and Senior Max. This year the event witnessed participation form three Sri Lankan racers as well.
The day started off with the official practise session followed by the qualifying sessions of all categories. In the qualifying round of day two for Kart Open, Bengaluru boy Nikhil Bohra (Meco Racing, best time–1:07.463) occupied the first place in the grid from the Micro Max category. Aaroh Ravindra from Mumbai (Rayo Racing, best time–1:02.067) & Ricky Donison from Bengaluru (BPC Racing, best time–1:00.767) from the Junior Max and Senior Max category respectively clocked the time first!
In the Rookie Cup category Aditya Swaminathan (Meco Racing, best time–1:08.139) from Bengaluru again clocked first in the qualifying round. Faridabad boy, Manav Sharma(BPC Racing, best time–1:02.127) and Brayan Perera from Sri Lanka (Meco Racing, best time–1:02.901) crossed the finish line first occupying the pole position in the Junior and Senior Max category.
JK Tyre–MMS Rotax Kart Open:
As race one began, Bengaluru Boy Nikhil Bohra in the Micro Max category impressed the crowd yet again with his racing skills as he crossed the finish line first. He was followed by Shahan and Chirag Ghorpade. From the Junior Max category Aaroh Ravindra dominated throughout the race even securing the fastest lap and came first. Mohamed Nallwalla and Akash Gowda finished second and third respectively. Ricky Donision who won all the four races in the first round and was leading the charts in the Senior Max category finished the race first yet again. Ameya Bafna crossed the finish line second. He was followed by Dhruv Shivaji Mohite from Kolhapur.
The second race in the Micro Max category took the crowd by surprise as Nikhil Bohra who was constantly coming first was beaten by Ruhaan Alwa. Chirag Ghorpade finished second and Shahan Ali Mohsin finished third. Aaroh who started from the pole position as he came first in race one raced through the track finishing first as the crowd cheered for the racers in the Junior Max category. Akash Gowda and Mrinal Chatterjee from Mumbai placed second and third respectively. Ricky Donision had the best lap time and was the star of the race in Senior Max category. He was followed by Nayan Chatterjee and Brayan Perera finished third.
After a short lunch break race 3 began which was run on short loop race for all categories unlike the other races. Racers from the Micro Max category competed under the hot sun with all their zest. Ruhaan Alwa clocked the best time securing first place. Chirag Ghorpade finished second even after getting a penalty; he was followed by Arjun S Nair. Aaroh Ravindra secured first place in the Junior Max category as he stunned the audience with his racing skills. He was followed by Mrinal Chatterjee and Mohamed Nallwalla. Ricky Donision came first again which was no surprise to the crowd. Nayan Chatterjee and Arya Chirag Gandhi secured second and third place in Senior Max category respectively.
The final set of races began after the inauguration of the track. The esteemed guests for the event were present to cheer the racers as they drove for one last time for this event on Sunday. Chirag Ghorpade secured the first place in the final race of the Micro Max category. He was followed by Aditya Swaminathan and Shahan Ali Mohsin. Mrinal Chatterjee came first and he was followed by Mohamed Nallwalla and Manav Sharma in the Junior Max category. In the Senior Max category, Bengaluru boy Ricky Donision placed first again and Nayan Chatterjee clocked the second best time. Ameya Bafna finished third in the race.
JK Tyre–MMS Rookie Cup 2015:
Aditya Swaminathan of Meco racing clocked the best time in the first race of Micro Max category. He was followed by Ruhaan Alwa and Aasityansh Kaulshi who secured second and third places respectively. In the Junior Max category, Aanjan Patodia of Rayo Racing raced through the track securing first place and he was followed by Sri Lankan racer Kevin Perera. Nirmal Umashankar of Chennai secured third place. Sri Lankan racer Brayan Perera managed to beat Zain Ali who won all the four races in round one. He came first followed by Nipun Majumdar and Prathamesh P Deshai.
Loud cheers from the crowd followed as Ruhaan Alwa finished first in race two. He was followed by Aditya Swaminathan who came second and Aadityansh Kaulshi who came third. In the Junior Max category Nirmal Umashankar from Chennai who secured third place in the previous race came first here. Sri Lankan racer Kevin Perera finished second again and he was followed by Surya Senthil from Chennai. The Sri Lankans in the Senior Max category secured the first and second place in this race. Brayan Perera had a comfortable win who came first and Charith Gunawardena followed him. Mohammed Zain Ali who was leading the points table after round one on Saturday finished third.
Ruhaan Alwa continued his winning streak as he crossed the finish line first again in third race which was a half–track one. Aditya Swaminathan finished at second place and he was followed by the youngest participant in the event, Akshay Bohra in Micro Max category. Aanjan Patodia finished first in this race under the Junior Max category. Jonathan Kuriakose of Pune and Debarun Banerjee came second and third respectively. The Senior Max category saw Brayan Perera coming first yet again. Charith Gunawardena crossed the line second and he was followed by Zain Ali.
In the final race, Aditya Swaminathan from the Micro Max category finished first. Ruhaan Alwa and Akshay Bohra finished second and third respectively. In the Junior Max category Manav Sharma clocked the best time. He was followed by Aanjan Patodia and Nirmal Umashankar. The proceedings in the Senior Max category saw Brayan Perera securing first place as he raced through the track leaving the audience amazed. Charith Gunawardena finished second and Zain Ali secured third place.
