Rahil Noorani winner of Race 1
VW Polo R Cup 2011–JKNRC Round 5 Chennai, MMRT Circuit
Race 1:
Rahil wins beating Oshan while Vishu finishes 5th
Round 5, the penultimate of the season started with much expectations as a tight fight for the championship was brewing between Rahil, Vishnu and Oshan. On pole was Oshan, and second quickest Vishnu was penalized again for the second time for ignoring the yellow flags in the previous round and had to start 10 spots behind. So, Rahil shared the front row with Oshan while Vishnu was on row 6. Former Formula Rolon driver Gaurav Dalal was a guest driver and another import to the Polo Cup was Ameya Walwalkar from Formula LGB Swift. At the lights Oshan took a slingshot but Rahil was close at his tail to get the better of his counterpart, so he did in the opening lap and started to dominate the race from then on while Avdumber, Mihir and Vishnu moved up the order.
The top 4 where evenly spaced and the second group was led by Vishnu who managed to edge them off. Rahil won and extended his championship lead followed by Oshan and Hegde with Vishnu finishing 5th. Gaurav Dalal and Ameya finish 7th and 9th respectively.
Race 2 (Reverse Grid) :
Gaurav wins but Vishnu gets the full points while Raahil, Oshan and Avdumer face troubles
The race started with Vidit and Gaurav on the front row. The experienced guest driver Gaurav took perfect start and overtook Vidit on the outside of C1 and from then on there was no looking back for him. Vishnu managed to pass Munjal and Vidit and slotted into 2nd while Rahil was stuck amidst a bunch of cars fighting for 5th. Vidit had a spin midway and dropped to the back and Avdumber had to come into pits while Oshan had a missing bumper due to a collision. All this made Vishnu is to take things a bit easy after a serious of mishaps in the previous rounds. Meanwhile championship leader Rahil who was running 4th, made a blunder to make places and eventually spun dropping further back making things much easier for Vishnu. Gaurav won the race but his win will not affect the championship in any way as he is a guest driver and no points will be awarded to him. Vishnu grabs the top points while his main contenders falter.
An overjoyed Vishnu said after the race "It feels great to be back on the podium after four races. My aim was to finish fourth or fifth in the first race to get a good grid position for race Two. I had a great start and moved into third place in the first corner and was right behind Vidit. After I got past Vidit it was impossible to catch Gaurav as he was too fast. Delhi is a new circuit for all of us and I am really looking forward to driving there."
