VW Polo R Cup 2011 Round 4 Chennai, MMRT Circuit

Race 1
Oshan wins the race from pole sitter Munjal

It was the talented Vishnu Prasad making the quickest time in qualifying but was again slapped with a 10 place penalty for his error in round 3 ignoring a black yellow flag which moved Munjal Salva into the pole alongside Oshan followed by Avdumber and Rahil on row 2. On the start it was Munjal, who went in tight into C1 with Oshan alongside and was able to keep the lead but Oshan got the better in the next lap. At the back Vishnu was moving up the ladder gradually taking in the slower cars ahead of him.

By lap 3 it was like a train of 7cars lead Oshan followed by Munjal, Mihir, Rahil, Avdumber, Vidit and Vishnu. Mihir who was running 3rd was notified of a jump start at the lights. Vishnu moved ahead of Vidit for P5 and the race was won by Oshan ahead of Munjal, Rahil, Avdumber and Vishnu. Mihir was penalized to 9th for the jump start.

Race2
Vishnu wins but eventually gets penalized making Rahil the winner

The reverse grid format for Polo Cup will be 8 place reversal based on race 1 standings. It was Abhinav on the pole along side Sourav followed by Vidit and Vishnu on the second row, Avdumber and Rahil on the 3rd row and Munjal and Oshan on the 4th row.At the lights Abhinav and Sourav went neck and neck and Vishnu launched into 3rd as Vidit slumped at the start only to see two or three cars get past him. In reaction Vidit tried to cut across the track and hit Oshan´s car, which spun on the very same straight and had to retire. As Oshan´s car was stranded at the main straight the race was yellow flagged and the safety car was deployed. Meanwhile racing resumed for a few corners before the yellow flags were out and it was Vishnu who was second behind Saurav in the lead as cars joined the Safety car.

The next lap the safety car was called in and normal racing began with Vishnu chasing down Saurav for the lead. Chennai lad Vishnu Prasad bettered Saurav to jump into the lead and started to pullaway. Mihir was again given a false start penalty. By Lap 5 it was Vishnu leading comfortably followed by Saurav, Abhinav, Rahil and Mihir. Vishnu Prasad crossed the line first followed by Rahil and Saurav.

Later in the evening the stewards slapped a 30sec penalty for Vishnu and Saurav due to ignoring flags and safety car procedures and race win went to second placed Rahil Noorani.

The stewards actions towards Vishnu Prasad during this weekend were condemned by the press and few senior racing experts as well.
