Vishnu Prasad on the way to victory
Vishnu Prasad makes it double
After a successful inaugural year in 2010 the VW Polo Cup started with a bang for the 2011 season with few new changes to the cars and the addition of R to the series name making it Polo R Cup. The new upgrades to the car are nose scoops, bigger mufflers and in–car drink to control dehydration of drivers.
The first round of the 2011 championship started in Coimbatore at Kari Motor Speedway along with the JK National Road Racing Championship. After the selection and training programs the drivers looked fit and enthusiastic. The pole was secured by Vishnu Prasad, last years title contender who looked strong to take the title which he lost to Sailesh Bolisetti.
Race 1 started with Chennaite Vishnu starting from pole and lead the race from start to finish who was closely followed by Mihir Dharkar from Mumbai and Saif Mir from Delhi.
Race 2 was as usual a reverse grid which saw Alisha Abdullah on pole. The start saw Alisha slingshot to lead and inch away from the cars behind but down back the faster cars of Vishnu and Mihir were making up places and soon were right behind the leader. Alisha managed to stick to the lead dodging the overtaking moves from Vishnu which even saw slight shunt and Vishnu losing a place to Mihir but he was soon to recover and by lap 10 made a move stick on Alisha and took the lead to finish the race making it a double win. Alisha was also overtaken by Mihir but she held her third spot by fighting till the end and thus becoming the first women on podium in the VW Polo R Cup.
