VW Polo R Cup - Round 2, 2012, Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore
Qualifying : Ameya Walavalkar grabbed a superb pole with masterly experience. Sandeep, Avdumber Hedge and Rahil Noorani formed the Top 4 grids.
Race 1 : Race 1 witnessed 2 restarts with weird incidents that brought the red flags twice. At the start Ameya Walavalker pulled neat start and started to pull away easily from second placed Sandeep. Rahil and Mihr got the better of Avdumber who dropped 2 places. It was as if Ameya is running away with race but suddenly a incident at corner 2 brought out the safety until the race was red flagged.
The cars formed the grid as per the race positions before the yellow flags went out and it was time for the restart. At lights Ameya took off cleanly with Sandeep behind but Alisha Abdullah came into the limelight for all the bad reasons. First it looked like Alisha (5th on the grid) made superb start to get ahead of Rahil (3rd on the grid) but it was jump start and then on turn 1 she went even worse trying to make most out of it without braking into the corner ultimately hitting Sandeep and causing chain reaction which damaged 3 or 4 cars. The race was immediately red flagged (stopped) and Alisha was summoned but the damages were already made to the cars of Sandeep and Mihir.
The cars re aligned for the 2nd restart but Sandeep's car was hit severely as a result had a broken left front rim. The mechanics tried to change the wheel but eventually ran out of time which moved him to the back of the grid. At the lights Ameya took off neatly with Rahil and Mihir following. Sandeep showed a masterly display of talent and started to make places upward. Ameya won the race comfortably followed by Rahil and Mihir making it a complete podium of the Mumbaikars.
Race 2 (Reverse Grid) : The race 2 saw the Mexican champ Diego Duez jet into the lead and take a massive lead but it was confirmed as jump start by the stewards and was due for 20secs penalty from his finishing time. Donovan Vaz was running second but Diego was pulling away in the front with almost a 5second lead. The battle for the positions happened for the final podium sport with Angad, Sandeep, Ameya, Mihir, Rahil and Saurav. Sandeep and Ameya managed to pass the slow car Angad Singh and even started to catch up Donovan. The chequered flag dropped while Diego was penalized to 5th, Donovan was declared the winner with Sandeep and Ameya completeing the podium.
